Let it all go,
see what stays.

“I am a therapist because there are not enough places where people can come to, to breathe, to be, and to experience unconditional acceptance.”

My journey

The world of emotions always fascinated me. Emotions breathe life into life. Without them we are not living.

How is it possible that we are so ready to seek the help from doctors when we are physically unwell yet suffer in silence with emotional pain? Neurologically a broken leg is the same type of pain as the grief of a broken friendship. But we often barely acknowledge the latter. And yet the pain is there. Like it or not. Let’s explore and learn how to approach it differently.

Like many others, I had to learn it too, and I am still learning. The journey of self-discovery never stops. Nor should it.

At the onset of my career more than 20 years ago...

…I set out full of vitality and motivation to make the world a better place and to support people on their personal journeys. I worked from institution to institution only to get discouraged about the reality of psychology every step of the way. It was a taboo, only for severe cases, it was bleak and hopeless, therapy was an obligatory burden rather than an enriching gift. It reached a point that even I decided to abandon it. This was not what I had in mind when I devoted my life to psychology.

So I changed direction and set off into the corporate world of administration and paperwork.

I spent several years working at different organizations of the United Nations. I learned about work dynamics, people dynamics, hierarchies, friendships, betrayal, political games and the expat life in general. Looking back on it now, it allows me to truly understand the world so many people live in and the issues they face on a daily basis. But this work life was not my world. It held no interest, no passion for me, it simply was not who I was. But who was I?

But who was I?

For years this would become the focal question in my life. I became a wife and a mother and my children were one of the biggest teachers about myself, challenging me every step of the way. They shone a light on every flaw, made me question my motives and drove me to set course on a path centered in love and kindness. Then slowly, organically through different channels and life’s coincidences I found myself returning towards psychology.

The more I progressed the more I realized that the field had changed and flourished.

Therapy became a normality and a quality of life. It gave meaning and opened an approach rooted in empathic and compassionate support. It became holistic incorporating the body, the mind as well as the emotions. It became everything I ever wanted it to be.

And then I dove in. I refreshed my knowledge from the past, completed specialized trainings and a comprehensive research study. I worked closely with my mentor Drs. Doug Ota for 3 years, clocking hundreds of therapy hours. Additionally I completed the Professional Training of Compassionate Inquiry by Gàbor Màte and the Internal Family Systems by Frank Anderson. And the journey has just begun…
